Statement on Valvoline Global Headquarters

This is another example of Lexington’s economy not working for the people who live here. It is an economic opportunity that Lexington’s leadership has allowed to slip through its hands. Those jobs, that payroll and the opportunity for future growth are now going to Cincinnati.

Lexington invested $1 million in taxpayer money to secure this global headquarters, only to watch it leave less than a decade later. Valvoline is now spending money to relocate its global operations to Cincinnati when Lexington could have been working with the company to retain the headquarters and compete for the good-paying jobs that could come with its future growth.

This is not the leadership Lexington needs. We cannot invest in economic development and then fail to protect that investment. Lexington deserves better. As mayor, I will fight for our economic future, do the work and produce results.
